Strength training is one of the most effective tools for fat loss, long-term health and how your body looks and feels, yet it's often the part beginners are most intimidated by. The good news: you don't need a complicated programme to get started.

Focus on a handful of foundational movement patterns: a squat, a hinge (like a deadlift variation), a push, a pull, and a carry or core movement. Almost every effective strength programme is built from variations of these.

Technique before load. In your first few weeks, the priority is learning to move well under light-to-moderate weight, not chasing heavy numbers. This is where working with a coach pays off: small technique corrections early prevent bad habits and injuries later.

Progress slowly and consistently. Adding small amounts of weight or an extra rep every week or two, tracked over months, produces far better results than trying to push too hard, too soon.
