Getting Started
What to Expect in Your First Personal Training Session
Nervous about your first session? Here's exactly what happens in a first 1-to-1 personal training session, step by step.
Your first session is designed to be approachable, not intimidating. It typically starts with a short conversation about your goals, training history, any injuries or health considerations, and what's realistic for your schedule.
Next comes a movement assessment: simple exercises that let your trainer see how you move, where you're strong, and where you need extra care. This isn't a fitness test to pass or fail; it's information used to build your plan.
You'll then do a real training session, scaled to your current level. The goal is for you to leave having worked hard, learned proper technique on a few key exercises, and understood how a session with a coach feels different to training alone.
By the end, you should have a clear idea of a suggested training frequency and next steps. There's no pressure to commit on the spot. A good trainer wants you to make the decision that's right for you.
